This is the Nuestra Senora de Gracia in Guadalupe Viejo, a stone’s throw away from Edsa and Café Lupe. Also known as the Guadalupe Ruins, the church is Makati’s oldest, used as a fortress by the Filipinos against the Spaniards in 1896 and against the Americans in 1898. The adobe stone slabs lining the church’s courtyard were even used to repair the Manila Cathedral when it was damaged during the last World War. (As you see, there's a bit of a history lesson here too!)

This culturally rich church has played its part in quite a number of personal histories as well, bearing witness to tearful brides walking down its famed aisle.

Nuestra has personal meaning to me since my family would include this church in our yearly Visita Iglesia during Maundy Thursday. To this day, we still continue that tradition.

I have always dreamed that I would get married in this church. That dream becomes a reality on December 29, 2006 when I shall walk the length of Nuestra to join my beloved in Holy Matrimony.
